Missions
Spanish Missions is a nonprofit ministry that was started in 1971 when Larry and Judy White decided to go into the mission field in El Salvador. For 10 years, they spread the gospel all over South and Central America. Shortly after their 10-year mark, Larry developed an illness that affected his voice and they had to return to the US. After being completely silent for a month, Larry’s voice came back but it was never the same and doctors advised him against travelling back to the Spanish speaking world. As a result, he decided to continue writing course work and developing material to train preachers and teachers through correspondence. He did this for over 40 years after returning to the US.
In 2008, Chase Turner began working with Larry and increasing outreach by putting the courses and studies online. Fast forward to 2022…over 292 million Bible studies have been downloaded in the last 14 years. We praise God for He can great things through His servants! This work had been overseen by the Jackson Street Church of Christ for over 25 years and has been supported by the churches of Christ in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas for many more years.
As Larry’s health declined, it was important to find a way to grow Spanish Missions into the future. IRC has gladly and thankfully accepted the responsibility of overseeing this work that has tremendous impact all over the world. We continue to look for more congregations that want to partner with us to reach Hispanics in the US and around the world!
What we do:
There are many who wish to attend a preacher training school but do not have the time nor the means to commit to a full-time program. Our ministry provides these individuals with free bible courses and resources they need to help them in their spiritual journey. The courses do not have a specific schedule which allows the students to study at their own pace. Each course contains written material, audio, and tests.
We offer basic bible courses for those who are beginning their spiritual journey or for those who need some great evangelism tools. We also offer in-depth courses that cover topics from the book of Revelation to the Holy Spirit to unity in the church. As our students complete courses, they receive a diploma and are always encouraged to teach what they learn to others.
In the last few years, we have started helping congregations enhance and start local Spanish outreach programs. Starting in 2023, Spanish Missions is working with the Herald of Truth in a program called MESA (Mission Evangelism Spanish America) to train Hispanics in the US to evangelize Hispanics in the US.
