Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, IRC has been looking for ways to help, both locally and globally.
Locally, IRC Executive Director Tim Hines found a friend who was willing to sew masks. The friend, Gayle Swafford, from Newnan, Georgia, graciously volunteered to sew the masks, while Tim procured the elastic to have her complete the masks, as most places were already out of the elastic. Gayle spent days sewing the items, bagging them, and then sent them to Louisiana. Once they arrived, they were sanitized and ironed, and have since been shared with a local assisted living center, and some local nurses.
Globally, Gayle Davidson, the Medical Director for IRC, has procured and had delivered N-95 masks, surgical gowns, surgical caps, and gloves to the Hospital Escuela, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She worked with a point person at the hospital, Dr. Sandra Sosa, to get the items to the frontline workers who are treating those coming in with the Covid-19 virus.
