the unsung heros of our time, They continue to sacrifice and direct their February 2007/Disaster Relief/Chalmette, LouisianaIRC has had an awesome opportunity this year to work hand in hand with Hilltop rescue based in El Segundo, Californian. I have been blessed with being able to be the spiritual life coordinator for an unheard of volunteer base of over 8,000 churched and unchurched servants that were willing to be used in a variety of ways. I would personally like to that all the volunteers that sacrificed their time, money and skill to come and work in a desolate part of our country. Our work in Chalmette has made a huge difference in the lives of countless families that are trying desperately to piece their lives back together. This area can be related to a war zone that has been, for the most part, forgotten about. Out of sight, out of mind. That is so true. Hilltop rescue had to return the elementary school back to the school board for reconstruction and decided that as a First Response Team that it was time to regroup and get ready for whatever comes next. Hilltop Rescue is working on preparing First Response teams in three areas of the country that are most susceptible to disaster that would require Hilltop's unique ability to setup, communicate and facilitate volunteers that would be willing to help with future disasters. Praise be to God that there are people, planning and readying themselves and other torespond to the need of the wounded by sending in the willing. IRC will now take an active role in the rebuilding process of theKatrina devastated war zone. IRC will be setting up another location in a trailer park with a kitchen and a community room to prepare ourselves for the day’s task. We will be doing drywall, insulation, texturing, painting, and finishing (lights, moldings, doors, plumbing, fixtures and cabinets) We will do what we can to help people get back into their homes. This camp should be ready by February 25th and we will only beable to house approximately 40 people at a time. If you are interested in bringing a group please contact Tim Hines at Waywalker@msn.com for reservations. IRC will supply you with tools and jobs to do. Keep visiting this website for more details and we will be getting the job done before you know it. Thank you for your confidence in IRC and we hope thatGod will bless our efforts to help those in need. Running With You to WIN the PRIZE, Tim Hines Chalmette Louisiana Disaster Relief 2006The IRC Board of Directors responded immediately to the Katrina disaster on August 29, 2005. We responded with medical teams that went to serve the injured evacuees in shelters with needed medications and supplies. The fire fighters, police officers, ATF officers and emergency rescue units were provided tetanus and Hepatitis injections. We assisted one of Tulane University's recovery teams' with supplies and injections to travel back into the flood zone. IRC coordinated physicians and health care workers who volunteered and traveled to the crippled area to provide health care a to the infirmed in Abita Springs, Covington, Madisonville, Pearl River, Slidell and the neighboring communities of New Orleans. Psychologists were brought in to provide counseling for post traumatic stress syndrome and to ease the emotional scars left by the storm. Food, water and needed supplies were trucked in daily and distributed to those in need through the efforts of volunteers. We provided supplies to the Red Cross, National Guard and military working in the area. The work was begun in St. Tammany Parish and was based in Mandeville and moved out to Slidell as it was closer to the hardest hit areas. As soon as flood waters receded we were able to travel into St. Bernard Parish and travel into one of the hardest hit areas, Chalmette, Louisiana. There we supplied them with equipment, injections and emergency medical supplies to serve the workers and emergency medical personnel in that area. As recovery progressed we began to steer our volunteers towards our affiliate Hilltop Rescue. Hilltop Rescue was formed by the Hilltop Church of Christ in El Segundo, California. It was a vision of Robert Machen to provide relief to those suffering from any natural disaster. Hilltop rescue and the leadership of IRC have been working together since February 2006 in Chalmette to assist in the relief efforts and rebuilding of lives and homes. Hilltop Rescue has been involved with gutting and demucking houses for the elderly the disabled and many others in need. They have coordinated over 3,800 volunteers, and are responsible for 22,000 volunteer days and 220,000 hours of service in less than a year. Many of these volunteers have traveled from all over the US and have represented 48 states from the Continental United States. Thousands of meals have been cooked and loads of laundry done for the community and volunteers. Hilltop Rescue has an incredible track record of meeting the needs of the poor and needy with its highly trained staff and has many resources that have been able to help numerous people through prayer, sharing the good news of Jesus, counseling and meeting the physical needs such as demucking houses, removing debris and assisting people in rebuilding their lives. IRC is proud to be affiliated with Hilltop Rescue.
